Principal + Professional Goat Wrangler—Father of two (one boy, one girl) with 11 years’ landscape experience. Eli was a sergeant in the army, where he worked as an intelligence analyst for five years. After the army he received his degree in urban planning from ASU. In 2009 Eli moved back to his hometown and founded EcoSense, with the goal of creating the most bad-ass sustainable-landscape company in the galaxy. Eli is a Smartscape-certified landscaper.
EcoSense Landscape Design + Engineering—Andrew began a career in ecologic landscape design after receiving a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, where his studies focused on dryland hydrology and fluid dynamics. He continues to study dryland ecohydrology at the graduate level at the UA. Prior to joining EcoSense, Andrew worked as a project manager, designer, and instructor for the nonprofit Watershed Management Group. He and his wife have lived and worked in over a dozen cities from New York to Seattle to Yuma. Along the way, he has also worked as a wilderness guide, social justice advocate, mental health technician, stonemason, freelance writer, carpenter, woodworker, residential contractor, and even as a piano builder while studying engineering.
Jesus (Chuy) Hernandez
EcoSense Maintenance Foreman—Father of four (all boys!) who has been involved in landscaping since he was 14 years old. Chuy is SmartScape-certified and always looking for ways to expand his knowledge base. He has a wonderful aesthetic sense and makes every effort to ensure that our clients' landscapes are looking their best throughout the year. When Chuy’s not at work, you can find him spending time with his family or watching the Arizona Cardinals. Chuy is a Smartscape-certified landscaper.
EcoSense Construction Foreman—Father of four (two boys and two girls) with 12 years’ landscape experience. Felix has a masterful eye for landscape layout and design (especially boulder placement!). When Felix is not working his butt off doing landscape construction, he’s spending his “downtime” coaching his kids' wrestling or football teams. Felix squeezes every drop of usefulness out of the day and brings a high level of energy to our team.
EcoSense Active Systems Foreman—Father of three (one boy and two girls) with three years’ landscape experience. Tony is a jack of all trades and has a very critical eye for the details, which makes him the go-to guy for any technical tasks. His skill set includes machining, carpentry, plumbing, tile, and auto work, to name just a few. When Tony’s not installing tanks, you can find him cycling, camping, or spending time with his family.
